The Town of Coaldale is looking for feedback about the use of shipping containers in the Town.

The use of shipping containers (typically appearing as corrugated metal rectangular boxes) has grown in the past few years and containers are increasingly desired for use in alternative applications (i.e. as accessory buildings or as building components).

It is important to note that no matter how the Town chooses to regulate the use and development of shipping containers, there are minimum standards under the Alberta Safety Codes Act (ie. requirements to paint, install blast door/window, obtain an engineer's stamp etc.) that the Town does not have control over.

You are encouraged to attend the Fall Community BBQ on Wednesday September 13 at the HUB field (next to the HUB building at 2107 13th Street). A Town of Coaldale booth will be set up and we will be taking comments and questions regarding the regulation of shipping containers. The BBQ runs from 5 to 8 pm.

Once the survey is closed and feedback from the BBQ has been collected, the Town's Land Use Bylaw may be amended to reflect the outcomes of the public engagement.
